HARWICH TO HULL: HOMEPAGE

In early July 2016 I cycled from Harwich to Hull in four days following National Cycle Routes. The route goes through the counties of Suffolk, Norfolk, Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire and is on dedicated cycle paths and quiet country lanes, at times extremely remote.

The Hull to Harwich Cycle Route was one of the first long-distance routes to be completed by Sustrans, the UK charity set up to promote bicycle use.

This route is a favourite with Dutch cyclists as both ends can be reached easily from The Netherlands by ferry and is either 369 miles (590km) via Colchester, or 326 miles (522 km) via Felixstowe.

To read daily accounts of the trip please see the menu on the right.

Summary: Cycling the 326 miles in four days was somewhat of a challenge. Five to six days would have been more relaxing with more time to stop and admire the quaint villages, ancient churches and other sights along the way. A satnav is vital and saves time as the signs are sometimes obscured, badly placed or missing. At times there were few places to buy food and drink so be prepared for this. All in all though a great route and highly recommended.

I am sorry, but the route links do not work any more.
